Some thoughts after Ashe Evyn's talk around settler feminism and unpaid labor.
Reparations and compensation to the harmed and vulnerable disrupts the system. The compensation is to offset the violence we face and to make up for our unpaid labor that is the foundation of our cultures and nations (and no, yte women, this doesn’t mean you don’t have to do the work around racism. You do NOT need to get compensated for areas of privilege!).
Learned something from me? Sharing my work? Want to pay it forward?
Add my cash tag ($MichonGG) to your statuses, posts, shares, etc. Like, "if you learned, pay this person!"
Can we do that? Get that spreading? I learned from such-and-such and even if they can't pay themselves, ask others to pass it on?
Cuz if I had a dollar for all the times y'all tell me how much I mean to you and everything you've learned, I would be able to offset so much of the damage done from the barriers between me and my needs and quality of life.
Intersectionality is not some impotent buzzword. It is actively seeking to repair power imbalances and restore those been abused and used. It is a lens through which to decide how best to help, not a status you claim while doing nothing.
