Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is a Matter of Life and Death

I have #pmdd, among a shit ton of other #disabilities. For me, it's more like two weeks or of every month. All of my attempts on my life occurred during the low point of my cycle.

When I talk about menstruation as being dangerous and life-threatening and that I can't afford to go through it, THIS is why.

All of those terrible myths about being crazy while on the rag, I'm sure they came about from all the people struggling with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (which, despite it's name, can actually last longer; bleeding does usually lead to some relief, but not always).

I can't have a full hysterectomy and oophorectomy because I also have PCOS. While it would maybe help the pmdd and endometriosis, it would make the pcos worse. My best bet is a partial, but docs like to think someone my age needs to hold out for theoretical kids.

You know, instead of making sure I actually get to live for the few decades I have left due to my comorbidities and being left-handed.

So, yay, medicalized #abuseculture. As if it wasn't isty enough.

This post was inspired by the following post, which has some great info but is also not inclusive or intersectional in the least. It labels pmdd as a woman’s disease as if women are monolithic and as if other nonmen don’t exist, it pits women’s issues against racial issues as if Black nonmen and men who menstruate exist, and she has to stress how otherwise normal and upstanding she is — but this also provides info you wouldn’t really find elsewhere.
