Misogynoir as Autocorrect

The default, hardly ever useful or accurate assumptions

It’s respectability politics

It’s the gender binary

It’s white supremacy

The explicit violence of misogynoir:

The overwhelming majority of my attackers, stalkers, and harrassers were Black men ("I want you but only so I can break you, bitch"). White men were "nice" in that they overoffered with the promise of secrecy ("I like you, but we can’t tell anyone"). White nonmen overoffered while drunk ("I only want you when I’m inebriated/have an excuse"). Black women mostly ignore me or want to own me or only for a moment. They hardly ever overoffer, but do find every way not to see my Othergender ass.

Other men and nonmen of various races simply deny my existence.

But it's all autocorrect. They autocorrect me to a Black female. To a receptacle to pour into. To a toy to treat as they please. To a theoretical they can deny.

They autocorrect me to death.

See, I'm not supposed to exist and my punishment is doled out by Black men, who are in charge of autocorrecting my existence. The default is white male and I am the opposite in every way. Their delusion needs to autocorrect me, and what better way than the death of the soul? It's not enough to merely kill us. No, they must erase us completely.

This what we mean when we say it's about power:

" It was just a hug, right?

That was no more a hug than rape is sex. They both are exertions of power—one person empowered by a dominant culture forcing themselves onto another. I was not raped. I didn’t fear that he would rape me. I was, however, terrified that if I continued to say no that he could, at his discretion, shove me into traffic. I felt powerless and that was the point." — from this article
